Home Boiler Upgrade Scheme Off-gas-grid amount
Off the gas grid? You may get more.
If you're eligible, homes replacing oil or LPG heating can get £9,000 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump for a limited time, instead of the standard £7,500.
The amount and the window
£9,000 for air-to-water or ground source heat pumps from 21 Jul 2026 until 31 Mar 2027.
Outside that window, or for other heat pump types, the standard amounts apply. See grant amounts.
The property must meet every condition
- have no mains gas (including capped or clamped meters)
- have no gas meter point record
- not be on a heat network
- not be a new build
- be replacing oil or LPG heating
These are about the building, not about you. A capped or clamped gas meter still counts as mains gas.
The usual conditions still apply
The higher amount sits on top of the normal rules, for example:
- the installer must be MCS-certified and applies on the owner's behalf (installer-led)
- the system replaces an existing fossil-fuel or electric system
- minimum SCOP 2.8 for air-to-water and ground source

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Who gets the higher off-gas-grid grant?
Homes with no mains gas that are replacing oil or LPG heating with an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, if they're eligible. £9,000 for air-to-water or ground source heat pumps from 21 Jul 2026 until 31 Mar 2027.
What if I'm off the gas grid but heat with electricity?
The higher amount needs oil or LPG heating to be replaced. Other eligible installs get the standard amount: £7,500: air-to-water, ground source and water source heat pumps (including exhaust air-to-water from 28 Apr 2026).
Does a capped gas meter count as mains gas?
Yes. A capped or clamped meter still counts as mains gas, so the property doesn't qualify for the higher amount.
