Home Heat pump costs
What a heat pump typically costs, before the grant.
Typical installed cost before the grant: about £11,000–£16,000, with a median of about £13,000 (government data on air source heat pump installs under the scheme, April–June 2026). Your quote depends on your home.
Where the typical figure comes from
That comes from the government's own scheme statistics: DESNZ: Boiler Upgrade Scheme statistics, August 2026, table Q1.1A. The Energy Saving Trust gives a similar typical figure: Energy Saving Trust: air source heat pumps.
These are typical figures across many homes, not a price for yours.

How the grant fits
If you're eligible, the grant is up to £7,500 (£9,000 in some off-gas homes). The installer must pass on the full grant as an upfront discount, shown on the quote and the invoice.
Ask for the grant to be shown as a line on your quote, so you can see the price before and after it.
Ground source
Ground source systems cost more and far fewer are installed. The government's typical figure is £26,200 before the grant, from a small number of installs, so treat it as a rough guide only.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
How much does an air source heat pump cost to install?
Typical installed cost before the grant: about £11,000–£16,000, with a median of about £13,000 (government data on air source heat pump installs under the scheme, April–June 2026). Your quote depends on your home.
Is the grant taken off that price?
The figures are before the grant. The installer must pass on the full grant as an upfront discount, shown on the quote and the invoice. If you're eligible, the grant is up to £7,500 (£9,000 in some off-gas homes).
Why don't you show a price after the grant?
Because every home is different. The typical figure is a middle point across many installs, not a price for your home, so the only reliable number is your installer's quote with the grant shown on it.
